Description
DescriptionLibrary and Information Services (LIS) at SIUE) seeks a collaborative and innovative Research and Teaching Librarian to join the Research, Teaching, and Learning (RTL) Department. This faculty position focuses on designing and delivering inclusive, evidence-based library instruction, providing research support, and building partnerships that integrate information literacy across the curriculum.
The librarian will work closely with the Information Literacy Librarian and Online Learning Librarian to strengthen foundational instruction for first-year writing and oral communication (General Education), and to bridge those outcomes into upper-level, research-intensive courses.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Learning Design
-Design and deliver inclusive, evidence-based information literacy instruction across in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
-Create and maintain research guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects aligned with course and program outcomes.
-Collaborate on foundational instruction for first-year writing and oral communication to establish consistent baseline outcomes.
-Research Support
-Provide in-depth research consultations for students and faculty (topic development; search strategies; evaluation/synthesis; citation; scholarly communication basics).
-Coordinate discipline-tailored research support for upper-level and research-intensive courses in assigned focus areas.
Partnerships & Liaison Work
-Develop sustained partnerships with faculty in applied communication studies, fine arts, and selected social sciences (or others based on expertise) to align library instruction and research support with departmental needs.
-Conduct outreach and engagement; share plans and outcomes with RTL colleagues to ensure transparency and coordinated service delivery.
-Assignments will be revisited annually to maintain balanced coverage and foster collaboration across RTL.
Assessment & Continuous Improvement
-Contribute to planning, implementation, and assessment of instruction and research services; apply findings to improve student learning and user experience.
Scholarship & Service
-Pursue scholarship, research, or creative activity and engage in service at institutional and professional levels, consistent with tenure and promotion requirements.

Qualifications
-Applicants must hold or be nearing completion of a master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program.
-Experience designing and delivering information literacy instruction or related teaching and learning experiences, gained through professional roles or graduate-level work (e.g. internships, assistantships, or practicums).
-Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and campus partners.
-Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences across multiple modalities (e.g. in-person, online, written, and visual formats).
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience with one or more of the following: liaison responsibilities, subject-specific instruction, or research support in an academic setting.
-Experience assessing student learning and/or evaluating instructional programs.
-Experience using instructional technologies and digital learning tools to support teaching and research (e.g., learning management systems, video tutorials, research guides).
-Knowledge of or experience in applied communication studies, social sciences, fine arts, or another disciplinary area relevant to liaison responsibilities (or others based on expertise).
-Experience participating in or facilitating programs, initiatives, or practices that advance equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
-Evidence of scholarly activity and/or professional service, or potential to develop in these areas.
