The Tacoma Public Library in Tacoma Washington seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Library Administrative Services Manager (Library Human Resources Manager). The Library Human Resources Manager will be responsible to manage a variety of human resources functions within the public library system, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws and practices in coordination with the City of Tacoma Human Resources Department. As a member of the Library's Management Team, the individual in this classification participates in strategic planning and policy development and serves as the human resources liaison to library administration and the Library Board of Trustees.


Under the direction of the library director, or designee, the Library Human Resources Manager coordinates and participates in library human resources support functions, including recruiting and personnel management, assisting in the preparation of biennial labor budgets, participating in labor union contract negotiations and meetings, advising managers on best practices for personnel matters and disciplinary issues; as well as related human resources activities, such as benefits, safety, FMLA and OJI, and staff performance reviews.

The Library Human Resources Manager will maintain a thorough knowledge of the library's policies and procedures including the bargaining agreements, personnel policies, and those points where the library's policies and procedures interface with the City of Tacoma policies and procedures. In addition, this individual will identify and alert library administration to human resources issues and options. The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, the ability to make sound decisions and is expected to communicate to staff clearly and concisely.
