Job DescriptionThe Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 1 seeks a collaborative Regional Medical Library Services Specialist to support the educational and outreach efforts of the NNLM Region 1. This is a full-time, grant-funded, contractual staff position supporting the aims of the NNLM, Region 1 and reporting to the Region 1 Executive Director.
The successful candidate will support regional and national educational programming by providing and/or facilitating webinars, contributing to the update or creation of online resources, serving as a Region 1 representative on NNLM committees and participating in outreach efforts to strengthen network member engagement within Region 1. The position works in a team environment that includes collaboration with the Region 1 Office, HSHSL, UMB, and the NNLM network of other Regional Medical Libraries, Offices and Centers. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.
This contractual position is expected to be funded until April 30, 2026.
HSHSL leadership is planning a competitive proposal for a future 5-year cooperative agreement.
The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 1 Regional Medical Library, housed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL), provides funding support, health information outreach, and educational services for the following states in alignment with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) strategic plan: DC, DE, KY, MD, NC, NJ, PA, VA, and WV.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Educates and guides face-to-face and remote network members in the use of technologies, tools, and strategies to create, seek, use or manage information related to the NLM/NNLM.
- Provides instruction workshops, webinars, symposia, and multi-modal formats on topics aligned with the NLM/NNLM priorities and initiatives.
- Responds to network member information needs using online systems and information seeking skills to evaluate and locate the most appropriate information resources.
- Monitors for copyright infringement and other laws, policies and practices governing access, use, and sharing of information resources.
- Participates in the planning, preparation, creation, and maintenance of NNLM and Region 1 information resources.
- Assists with the maintenance of NNLM information discovery tools, guides, and other information resources.
- Identifies and resolves problems related to access and use of NNLM information resources and services.
- Collects, reports, and assists with analyzing data on usage and network members needs of the region.
- Generates specialized reports and notices.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: One (1) year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position.
Preferred Experience: Experience conducting workshops and trainings including demonstrable skill in interacting with diverse audiences in virtual and in-person environments preferred. Experience in academic, research, or health sciences libraries preferred. Experience with learning management systems and video conferencing technologies preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the mission and role of college or university library and its primary customers. Ability to learn and apply contemporary library terminology and functions. General knowledge of traditional and emerging practices for describing and organizing information resources. Understanding and ability to apply library and university computing policies and practices that help ensure information quality, integrity, and security. Ability to apply and enforce U.S. Copyright laws and current trends related to access and use of information resources. Knowledge of basic principles of quality customer service, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Ability to work independently and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Experience and proficiency with one or more technologies or tools used to create, seek, use, or manage information. Ability to learn and operate a variety of common computing and productivity applications (e.g. email, word processing, databases and spreadsheets, content management, web browsers) and specialized library hardware, systems, and software applications. Ability to apply key concepts and best practices for developing, maintaining, and using collections of digital information. Skill in analytical and problem solving. Ability to assist other library staff in selecting and evaluating technology used in libraries.
HIRING RANGE: $49,341.45 - $57,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
