The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law’s Ross-Blakley Law Library seeks a full-time innovative, collaborative Reference Librarian to support the college’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and public service, and provide leadership for the library’s acquisitions department. This position integrates strategic leadership of library acquisitions with active engagement in legal research, instructional, and reference services. The librarian oversees acquisitions operations, vendor relationships, and contracts while partnering with faculty, students, and colleagues to advance an inclusive, forward-looking academic environment.
The Reference Law Librarian position is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. An entry-level appointment would be as an Academic Professional on an annual appointment under the rank of Assistant Librarian. An experienced candidate may be eligible for an annual appointment under the rank of Associate Librarian or Full Librarian. Essential Functions
- Provides leadership for the library’s acquisitions department by supervising one staff member and performing tasks such as monitoring expenditures, running reports, and ensuring effective management of vendor relationships.
- Serves as a member of the reference team by providing legal research assistance to law students.
- Conducts legal and interdisciplinary research to support law faculty scholarship and teaching.
- Participates in library instruction sessions as needed. Has the option to teach one 1-credit legal research course annually.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctorate (J.D) from an ABA-accredited institution AND a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), Master of Library Information Science (M.L.I.S.), or equivalent Library Degree from an ALA-accredited institution. Upcoming May graduates are eligible to apply, contingent upon successful degree conferral.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with acquisitions, budgeting, and/or vendor management in an academic or law library setting.
- Familiarity with integrated library systems and/or financial reporting systems.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience providing reference services in a law library
- Experience working in an academic law library
- Demonstrated legal research experience
- Evidence of effective communication skills
- Experience in working independently and as part of a team
- Experience in demonstrating excellent organization and problem-solving skills
