Performs professional level duties to assist library patrons and maintain library collection of materials.
Essential Functions
Answer questions from library patrons; assist in locating materials; and instruct patrons in the effective use of library equipment and resources; Assist paraprofessional and clerical staff in circulation as needed; Select, order and maintain records of money spent for materials; Review current literature of library and publishing companies to keep abreast of available materials, programs, and library procedures; Plan and conduct programs for children, Teens and adults; May supervise library support staff; Participates in ongoing professional development to keep abreast of new trends and developments; Must work some evenings and weekends as a regular part of a rotating schedule. Perform related duties as required.
Completion of a master degree in library science, or ability to complete degree requirements within six months, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Valid Current Driver's License
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of library science; Computer applications related to library functions. Dewey Decimal System, OCLC.
Ability to:
Effectively provide customer service to library patrons; Evaluate library materials; Develop and implement library programs; Operate computer and software; Display flexibility when new types of materials or methodology or software become available; Physical Requirements
Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds; Frequently walk and stand during a shift; Occasionally kneel; Frequently push and pull objects; Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing; Reach above, at or below shoulder height; Frequently handle objects; Frequently crouch or stoop.
