Company Overview
Robert E. Kennedy Library became the first university library in the state to receive ACRL’s Excellence in Academic Libraries award. The award, made in 2014, recognizes the Kennedy Library’s distinction in engaging the students and faculty of the Cal Poly university community. While integrating traditional library resources and services with digital tools and platforms, the library continuously experiments to adapt its services, programs, and spaces to meet the evolving academic programs, research interests, and needs of the university community. Annual visitors exceed 1.4 million. 
Kennedy Library’s ten librarians, 35 staff, and over 120 student assistants work with campus partners to deliver services focused on Cal Poly’s commitments to research, learning, collaboration and innovation. The library provides a digital showcase for Cal Poly student and faculty work (DigitalCommons@Cal Poly); hosts popular learning spaces and a library café on the second floor; and is home to a Data Studio where students learn GIS, statistics, and data visualization skills. An ambitious architectural master plan was completed in 2014, providing a compelling vision for renewing the library’s packed and well-loved physical spaces to accommodate the growing needs of Cal Poly’s students and faculty. The library’s master plan proposes investing between $10-$20M to create exceptional new spaces for the library’s programs centered on digital scholarship, special collections and university archives exhibit, reading, and instructional spaces, and spaces that support innovative and high quality peer learning experiences. A library expansion is also planned for the campus, with over $90M in state funds designated for the project. Both initiatives provide a vision and outstanding opportunities for private giving and grant support at every level.

Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo
Cal Poly is a nationally ranked, four-year, comprehensive public university and is part of the 23-campus California State University system. Founded in 1901, the 6,000-acre campus is nestled in the foothills of San Luis Obispo, along California's scenic central coast and midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The emphasis of the University is a "learn by doing" educational experience for its students.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
For the past 21 years, Cal Poly has been rated the best public-master's university in the West by U.S. News & World Report, according to its 2014 “America’s Best Colleges” guidebook.
Cal Poly placed sixth in the magazine's overall list of the West’s best universities, including both public and private institutions, that provide “a full range of undergraduate and master's-level programs but few, if any, doctoral programs.” U.S. News ranks colleges that grant doctoral degrees, such as those in the University of California system, in a separate category.
Cal Poly’s College of Engineering program ranked fourth among public engineering programs for schools whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or a master’s. A number of Cal Poly Engineering programs ranked high in the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs in their specialty categories. The university’s Mechanical Engineering program ranked No. 2 in the nation. Civil and computer engineering ranked No. 3 on their respective lists. Electrical Engineering ranked No. 5.

Cal Poly ranks third nationally among public universities in a Forbes.com ranking of college campuses, based on a recent study that looks at earnings of alumni at colleges around the country. Cal Poly followed only Berkeley and University of Virginia in the public rankings, tying for the third spot with UCLA and UC San Diego. According to the study, compiled by PayScale.com, Cal Poly alumni with 10-20 years of experience earn a median salary of $101,000, with 10 percent of the graduates at this experience level making more than $178,000. DesignIntelligence
In 2014, Cal Poly's architecture program was rated as the No. 1 architecture school in the nation by the leading architecture and engineering journal DesignIntelligence. As well, the university’s bachelor of landscape architecture program ranked fourth in the 2014 listings.
Bloomberg’s Businessweek
Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business is one of only two public universities in California to rank in Bloomberg’s Businessweek’s ranking of Top 100 undergraduate business programs in the nation. Cal Poly and UC Berkeley are the only public universities in California to make the list.
Highly Ranked for Minority Graduation
Cal Poly’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences is consistently rated among the top agricultural programs in the nation in granting baccalaureate degrees to minority students. In 2009, the college was ranked No. 4 in the nation in granting agriculture degrees to Hispanic students, No. 6 in degrees to Asian American students, and No. 7 in degrees granted to all minority students.

Cal Poly ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 2009 “Top 10 Surf Schools” ranking by Surfline.com.
U.S. News & World Report ranked San Luis Obispo among its Best Places to Live in 2009. And according to the magazine, Cal Poly played a big part in the distinction. “Tucked into California’s sweeping Central Coast region is lovely San Luis Obispo....In addition, California Polytechnic State University, which is located in town, infuses the community with intellectual energy.”
