Title: Manager, Cataloging
Location: Library Services Center - Collection Management Services Area
Hours: Full-time
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am - 5pm
Starting Annual Salary: $61,719.00
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:
The Manager, Cataloging oversees bibliographic database operations to ensure accurate and accessible records for Library and Shared System materials. As a member of the Collection Management leadership team, this role provides strategic direction for cataloging operations, advances the use of emerging technologies, optimizes workflows, and supports effective discovery and access for library users. The Manager leads staff development and departmental planning, oversees documentation, and collaborates across departments to deliver efficient, high-quality services. This role also provides leadership in staffing, training, performance management, and departmental workflows, while planning and maintaining the work systems, procedures, and policies that support efficient operations and an exceptional user experience.
A successful candidate will…
- Have Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
- Have Indiana Librarian Certification 4 – Branch or Department Head
- Three to Five years of professional cataloging experience
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
What does the job look like?
- Leads and optimizes cataloging workflows for IndyPL and the Shared System, overseeing and performing original and copy cataloging, authority work, and ongoing catalog maintenance to ensure timely, accurate metadata, optimum discoverability, and seamless access to library resources, with accurate OCLC holdings maintained to support efficient Interlibrary Loan processes.
- Recruits, develops, and leads a high-performing cataloging team, providing training and support to achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrates advanced expertise in cataloging standards, including AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCGFT, and DDC, and applies in-depth knowledge of ILS cataloging modules and emerging technologies such as BIBFRAME and Linked Data. Stays current with developments and trends in the cataloging field and establishes, maintains, and updates high-quality cataloging standards and practices in alignment with national standards.
- Manages ILS cataloging functionality, collaborates with IT to implement new features during system upgrades, maintains expertise in acquisitions and serials modules and their interaction with cataloging, and partners with public services and IT to optimize discovery layer functionality.
- Oversees the processing of vendor records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with cataloging standards. Provides guidance on tools such as MARCEdit, monitors data quality, and directs resolution of database issues and data enrichment activities.
- Guides cataloging practices for specialty collections, including archival and historical materials, full-text e-resource holdings, and emerging formats.
- Ensures the timely implementation and ongoing oversight of authority control and enriched data updates from outsourced vendors, maintaining data integrity, consistency, and compliance with established cataloging standards.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of the Cataloging Manual, departmental documentation, and training resources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.
- Maintain flexibility to meet scheduling requirements and handle routine job-related challenges.
- Works the regularly scheduled hours for the position and manages daily job-related stress effectively.
