Part Time - Reference & Instruction Librarian
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time - Reference & Instruction Librarian at our Brenham Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:
Objective
To provide professional library services with an emphasis on reference and instruction.
Principal Accountabilities
Promotes information literacy by teaching students the knowledge and skills to access and evaluate information effectively, using current technologies in a classroom setting.
Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective library instructional programs.
Provides reference and research services to students, faculty and other library users using electronic and print tools and resources.
Designs and develops library instructional materials and guides in various formats.
Participates in management and configuration of the library integrated software, website and electronic databases. Collaborates with faculty regarding library assignments, instruction, collection development, etc.
Participates in library planning and the development of policies and procedures.
Participates in evaluation and development of the library collection.
Trains and supervises nonprofessional library staff; shares in the management of public service operations.
Works collaboratively with college faculty and administration. Serves on faculty councils and committees.
Participates in professional activities and maintains familiarity with theory, practices and trends in college libraries.
Maintains and enforces discipline and decorum in the library.
May also manage or participate in acquisitions, cataloging and processing procedures as needed.
May also provide inter-library loan services for faculty and students.
Performs other library and college related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in library science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
Minimum Competencies
Communicates effectively through strong written, oral and instructional communication skills.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal and computer skills.
Contributes collegially and productively in a team environment, exhibiting adaptability and flexibility.
Demonstrates knowledge of instructional concepts, methodologies, technologies and the goals of information literacy.
Demonstrates familiarity with library integrated software, databases, print and non-print resources relevant to academic libraries as well as the ability to use and teach them effectively.
Displays the ability to work effectively and enthusiastically with freshman and sophomore students.
Demonstrates ability to use current technologies to facilitate instruction and reference duties and data collection.
Maintains a personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves results with little oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching in a classroom setting using a variety of instructional approaches and technologies. Planning lessons and assessing learning outcomes of instruction sessions.
Experience providing individualized instruction in research methods through reference service using a variety of traditional and electronic resources.
Designs research guides, preferably using LibGuides software.
Creates documents, spreadsheets, publications, and presentations using Microsoft Office applications.
Requirements
