Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to plan, develop, and provide information and technology assistance, and plan programs and special activities for the public.
This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Provides reference, information and general library assistance to the public, in person, electronically, and by telephone, and assists patrons with the use of resources and technologies.
Assists patrons with complaints, concerns, and research requests.
Selects books and other library materials, and participates in collection maintenance and management.
Creates and curates print and digital content, social media, and special collections.
Plans, implements, and evaluates library programs and services which meet the diverse needs of the public.
Develops and maintains effective community partnerships.
Assists with implementation of programs, tours, outreaches, and special library activities.
Acts as point of contact in the absence of a supervisor to interpret and enforce library policies.
Prepares reports and other printed materials as required.
Plays a lead role in support of library initiatives and programs through active participation on system-wide and City-wide committees, and by providing effective physical and digital displays and community outreach.
Assists with displays, book lists, and decoration of the department
Attends professional workshops and meetings to continually update professional skills.
Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science or related discipline.
This position requires one (1) year of experience providing service to the public or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
This position requires a valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a safety sensitive position, subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over others.
May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
